What can I expect?

As clinicians, many of us strive to implement biopsychosocial approaches and so dealing with the impact from current events plays heavily in our interactions with patients or clients. For many white people, much of this might be an "all of a sudden" trauma which might be prompting us to educate ourselves on the racial history of the US. For many Black people, this sustained trauma may be exhausting and the work has become even greater having white people suddenly interested in this education while being asked to do more at a time when emotions are raw.
Lauren Collins and Uchenna Ossai have been doing professional education for pelvic health professionals on the topics of trauma, race, sexuality, and gender-inclusivity for years and have been gracious enough to spend some of their time and emotional energy to do some education with us, as their fellow pelvic health providers. This is an incredible opportunity to help process all of the information we have been learning, re-learning, and unlearning, and find ways that we can be available to our patients on a deeper level so that we may help them along their rehabilitation path.
