    Recertification FAQ

    Is this required? Recertification is not required. You can take this course, get your CEUs and then have this on your resume and list this course on your website or wherever you want to insert your credentials. 

    What does it entail? If you'd like to keep up with an active CERTIFICATION, then after 3 years you'll need to recertify. This process will include making sure you've watched all of the updated material and then taking the updated test again. You will need to email courses@pelvicglobal.com in order to get the recertification link when it’s time for you to recertify. Please attach your most recent certification in your email request! 

    What if I haven't finished the course yet? If you haven't yet gotten your certificate, when you get your certificate for the first time, it will be your certification with the date that will be good for 3 years. 

    What if I have already claimed my certificate before it became a certification? Email your certificate to hello@pelvicglobal.com and we'll give you your certification certificate with the same date. Your recertification will be due 3 years from that date.*  
    *No one will have to recertify earlier than Dec 31 2026. What is the cost? $99 for 3 years beginning 3 years after your initial certificate claim. 

    What if I forgot to recertify and now my certification is expired but I want to get it back? You will need to email us an updated CV and a writeup of what they've been doing with their PHSC for the past couple years before we send them the recert link. 

    How do I get access? When you receive your certification, please go ahead and mark on your calendar for about 2 years and 10 months out and then request a recertification link to courses@pelvicglobal.com.

    Supervision is primarily for people interested in pursuing AASECT certification, but can also be for anyone looking for structured, small group, or individual consultation. 

    If you're already established with supervision with us, click below to schedule times.
    Remember the basics of what you need for AASECT supervision:

    • 30 hours total (15 can be group but don't have to be).
    • You can have up to 4 supervisors.
    • You have to be in supervision for 1 year before you submit an application.
    • Supervision hours don't expire.
    • Supervision hours can be all online.
    • Please have some cases or questions ready for your supervision time.


    If you've met these requirements or you aren't interested in AASECT, you can still sign up as mentorship hours. The same standards will apply to the type of supervision we provide!

    What can I expect?

    With all of the information that's out there, it can be challenging to know how to sort it all out into a model of care that is functional and intersectional. 
    Here are some of the questions that come up during peer/professional consultation:
    • How does sex counseling fit in with what I actually do in the clinic?
    • How can I make sure I’m seeing the WHOLE person?
    • What are my professional boundaries?
    • Where does what I do end and mental health therapy begin?
    • Am I being inclusive in the way that I offer care?
    • As a pelvic health provider, how do I work with couples around sexuality?

    Program Objectives

    (in accordance with AASECT counseling guidelines):

    • Participants will be able to describe two theories and methods in personal/individual pelvic health sexual counseling. 
    • Participants will be able to describe two approaches for pelvic health sex counseling that are appropriate for specific populations (e.g., youth, older adults, couples, LGBTQ people, people with disabilities, ethnic/ cultural/ faith-based populations).
    • Participants will be able to implement approaches to intervention for working within relationship systems as applicable to pelvic health sexuality counseling. 
    • Participants will be able list three clinical decision-making processes for sexually related medical interventions for all genders. 
    • Participants will be able to discuss two ethical issues in sexuality counseling as related to pelvic health. 
    • Participants will be able to implement a practice of consultation, collaboration, and referral as applicable to pelvic health.

    Heather Edwards, PT, CSC, CSE

    Heather is a pelvic physical therapist and certified by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists as a Sex Counselor and Sex Educator. 
    Heather is the founder of Vino & Vulvas which is a monthly event that creates a space for education, curiosity, and pushing the conversation of sex past limits of heteronormativity, gender binary, white-normativity, and vanilla-normativity. V&V collaborates with pelvic health specialists, sex therapists, sex educators, and counselors who will be having panel discussions with time for questions on a plethora of topics centered around sexual wellbeing.
    Heather also is the author of nonbinary crotch art coloring book series and teaches for Pelvic Guru on the topics of LGBTQIA inclusive sexuality counseling for medical providers. 

    Uchenna "UC" Ossai, PT, DPT, CSC-SIT

    Dr. Uchenna “UC” Ossai PT, DPT, WCS, CLT is assistant professor at University of Utah College of Health’s Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training. Dr. Ossai also served in the role as assistant professor at the University of Texas Dell Medical School (Austin, TX) in the Departments of Women’s Health from 2017 to 2022. Dr. Ossai received her clinical doctorate in physical therapy at University of Illinois at Chicago and completed her residency in Women's Health and Movement Impairment Science at Washington University in St. Louis.  Dr. Ossai is an American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) certified Sexuality Counselor, and serves in the role as adjunct faculty at the University of Michigan School of Social Work Sexual Health Certification Program. Her clinical and research interests include sexual function in marginalized populations, particularly among Black women and LGBTQIA+ communities.

    Dr. Ossai is also creator/founder of YouSeeLogic, a sexual health platform for adults rooted in an intersectional and social justice framework that focuses on improving sexual joy, pleasure, and autonomy through innovative education and community building.
