What to expect:

The respiratory diaphragm has long been linked to pelvic floor health and functioning, but the voice has not. That is now rapidly changing as research emerges to link all three diaphragms, not just physiologically, but from a neuropsychological lens.

You can tell a lot about your patient just from listening to their voice. This introductory course will introduce you to foundational concepts needed to be able to use vocal techniques to treat the pelvic floor and core.

Singing is a sport, but you don’t need to be able to sing to access the power of the voice in pelvic floor therapy. Phonation and vocalization are ideal, alternate but essential pathways to treating pelvic floor dysfunction and promoting pelvic floor health.

In fact, perhaps the most critical part of your own success as a physical or occupational therapist depends on your voice, so this course will benefit you in two ways:
1) Teaching you how to find your voice and use it as a therapeutic modality – effectively, safely, and efficiently.
2) Teaching you how to use vocal interventions to impact not just pelvic, but overall health and well-being.

Additionally, accessing the voice must be trauma-sensitive. This course will provide therapists, therapists, midwives, and other rehab professionals with an evidence-based trauma-informed approach to be more prepared to handle cases where a patient may have comorbidities such as a history of PTSD or other mental health issues, sexual abuse, and/or birth trauma.

Getting in touch with the power of your own voice also has the potential to improve your effectiveness and confidence as a clinician, improve your own self-care, and nurture your public speaking abilities as a leader in your field. Join Dr. Ginger Garner for an introduction to finding and harnessing the power of the voice for pelvic health.

What will you learn?
