What can I expect?

We brought on some major experts on this topic with plastic surgeons, Dr. Elizabeth S. Lee, MD and Dr. Danielle DeLuca-Pytell, MD. We also had GPHAM member, Lisa Ryan, on board! She is not only a postpartum fitness expert specializing in DRA (Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Coach and CF-L2), but she has also had a full emotional and physical journey dealing with her own DRA and surgery healing.

This panel dives into the importance of multi-disciplinary care when treating people with diastasis recti. We talked through the perspectives of the plastic surgeons to help in the decision making and healing process and how we can best advise and educate people about all of the treatment options available.

What you will learn:

  • When does is make sense to get an abdominoplasty?
  • How long postpartum should someone wait to have this done?
  • Are there concerns if they have surgery and then get pregnant again?
  • What are the approaches to the surgery? Options? Anterior repair/Posterior or both? Does this affect function?
  • Is there a part covered by insurance typically and then some paid for cosmetic? Or usually not covered at al etc?
  • How can PTs, OTs, and fitness specialists work with plastic surgeons for more integrated care?
